In the ABE fermentation process, many by-products exist in the fermentation broth.Among them, acetone and ethanol are the main by-products and they have similar physicochemical properties with butanol.In the ABE fermentation, the main inhibitor is the toxicity of butanol to the cell[1].So it is benefit for fermentation productivity enhancement if butanol was removed in situ.
