An intensity-modulated anemometer by using a biconical optical fiber taper incorporating with a Fiber Bragg Grating(FBG)is proposed.The light reflected by the FBG passes twice through the fiber taper,whose insertion loss is tuned by the tested airflow through airflow velocity-dependent fiber bending.High sensitivity of 0.315 μW /(m/s)and resolution of 0.042 m/s are achieved within a measurement range up to 6.57 m/s.The power detection method excels the previously reported wavelength interrogation ones at both the reduced cost and simplicity of the sensor system.
