The crown-ether based SR Resin is frequently used for the separation and determination of Pb-210 in aqueous samples,typically up-front to a measurement by liquid scintillation (LSC) or gas proportional counting (GPC).SR resin only shows significant Pb retention at moderate to high acid concentrations; it thus does not allow for direct load of Pb from near neutral or slightly acidified (pH 2) water samples,making the additional use of pre-concentration steps such as ion exchange or co-precipitation necessary.In order to simplify the Pb-210 separation it was attempted to develop a new modified SR resin allowing for the direct load of Pb from environmental water samples (pH≤8) and its subsequent purification on the same column.SR Resin was modified by introducing varying amounts and types of ionic liquids to its composition,obtained prototypes were evaluated with respect to their retention characteristics; some results of the characterisation work are presented.A new rapid method for the determination of Pb-210 in various environmental water samples based on the use of modified SR Resin was developed and tested on spiked environmental water samples.Samples of up t0 1L were directly loaded at elevated flow rates onto a column containing modified SR resin; Pb-210 was retained on the column,purified and finally eluted with high chemical yield and purity.The potential use of the resin in DGT (diffusive gradients in thin films) is discussed.
