The continental margin plays an important role in the oceans carbon cycle.Suspended matter in the near shore not only affects primary production by light limitation and nutrient supply,it can also transport organic carbon as a carrier. The East China sea is one of the biggest margins in the world.Changjiang, the biggest river of China discharge ~9300×108 m3 water and ~4.86×108t suspended particles per year carrying high nutrients and organic carbon.Field observation of suspended particles and TOC were carried out in the East China Sea during 15 July to 25 August 2006,and during 21 December 2006 to 5 February 2007.The concentrations of suspended particles in the Changjiang Estuary and Hang Zhou Bay showed significant seasonal variation.
