With current treatment protocols more than 85% of adults with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) achieve complete remission (CR), however, approximately halfofCR patients subsequently relapse, which is unequivocally associated with poor prognosis. The major task is to identify high-risk patients who require intensified post-remission therapy as well as to apply new drugs targeting molecular and phenotypic features characterizing particular subtypes of the disease.Conventional criteria for high-risk ALL include initial tumor burden (WBC >30 x109/L for B-lineage ALL), higher age, adverse immunophenotype (pro-B, early-T, mature-T), late CR achievement, and adverse karyotype (t(9;22), t(4;11)).
