Background The γ-glutamyltransferase (GGT) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) are involved in oxidative stress and atherogenesis.GGT and GPx catalyze the conversion of reduced glutathione (GSH) by different reactions which transferase and oxidase possess respectively.The combination of GGT activity and GSH forms the transfer reaction system of GSH,whereas the combination of GPx activity and GSH constitutes the oxidation reaction system of GSH.
