Critical pulmonary stenosis is a severe congenital cardiac malformation of the pulmonary valve widely seen and treated in the neonatal period where it presents with systemic desaturations and right heart failure.In Kenya, where health resources are scarce and mal-distributed, critical pulmonary stenosis tends to present beyond the neonatal period into adulthood with a clinical profiles similar to the neonate and equally devastating.We hereby describe our local experience From January 1996 to December 2011 a total of 178 patients with isolated pulmonary valve stenosis were treated with percutaneous pulmonary valvuloplasty at the Mater Hospital.Of these 96(53.9%)had moderate pulmonary stenosis, 31(17.4%) severe pulmonary stenosis while 51 (28.7%) had critical PS.
