With the introduction of columns filled with particles smaller than 2 μm a significant increase in chromatographic performance could be achieved.Besides the improved resolution the advantage of sub-two-micron (STM) material is the almost horizontal h versus u-curve at higher linear eluent velocities. Thus an up to 30 times reduction of analysis times can be achieved while resolution and sensitivity increase also.Up to now, the typical detector in Rapid Resolution LC (RRLC) is a UV/Vis detector with fast data rates of 80 Hz.The fast sampling rate ensures that enough data points for optimum resolution, precision and sensitivity are provided.Another advantage of UV/Vis detectors is that they can be used typically with several cells in different dimensions as volume and length. Thus the detector performance can be easily optimized in dependence of the column internal diameter.
