Thiopeptides.with potent activity against various drug-resistant pathogens, feature a characteristic macrocyclic skeleton that contains polyazole, dehydroamino acids, and a heteroaromatic core centered by a 6-membered nitrogen heterocycle. So far the biosynthetic mechanisms of thiopeptides are still unveiled. Here we report the isolation of four thiocillins (Tel) from the Bacillus cereus ATCC14579,a previously unknown producer of thiopeptide and characterization of a 15kb gene cluster encoding a typical ribosomal peptide biosynthetic machinery linked to the production of the thiocillins.
