To observe the dietary glycemic load (GL) in patients with newly-diagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM),and discuss the relationship between dietary GL and blood glucose and lipid,201 patients with newly-diagnosed T2DM and 126 people with normal blood glucose above 40 years old in communities of Guangzhou were enrolled.Carbohydrate (CHO) intake and GL were assessed based on 3-d dietary records.With GL as the dependent variable,correlation analysis and multiple regression were used to analyze the relationship between dietary GL and concentrations of blood glucose and lipid.The results showed that dietary GL in patients with newly-diagnosed T2DM was significantly higher than control group ((169.61±44.83) vs (157.50±38.47),P<0.05).Correlation analysis showed that dietary GL was positively correlated with BMI and HbA1c in patients with T2DM (r=0.187,P<0.01 and r=0.154,P<0.05,respectively),while negatively correlated with HDL-C in both control group and diabetes group (r=-0.197,P<0.05 and r=-0.207,P<0.01,respectively).Adjusted for age and sex by multiple regression,the result was the same.It is concluded that high-GL diet may be associated with the occurrence of T2DM,and is closely related to glucose control and blood lipid metabolism.It is necessary for both patients with diabetes and healthy people to control dietary GL.
