Translational medicine has been emerging as a hot novel discipline in recent years.Although it is defined differently by various groups in academia, regulatory institutions and industry, the fundamental mission of translational medicine is to efficiently and effectively translate breakthroughs in basic/preclinical research into knowledge with clinical implications, which should be further efficiently translated to the community.Initiated by former NIH director, Dr.Zerhouni, 60 clinical and translational research centers have been established in the United States since 2006.The common functions of these central platforms will be briefly introduced using the Clinical and Translational Science Center in Weill Cornell Medical College as an example.
