Tuberculosis (TB) is an issue of critical importance which coincides with the epidemic of HIV infection in this subcontinent.TB (pulmonary and extrapulmonary) is not only the most common AIDS-defining illness but is also the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in AIDS patients.Nearly half of these patients were found having extrapulmonary TB,which is related to extensive CD4 cell depletion and a longer treatment. The prevalence of MDR-TB was found to be steadily increasing upto 26.6%,and history of previous TB therapy is a major contributing factor.Overall, isoniazid preventive therapy has not been widely recommended in HIV/TB coinfected patients.
