Aim Intestinal inflammation plays an important role in the pathophysiology of postoperative ileus (POI).Current evidence revealed that peritoneal air exposure was involved in peritoneal and systemic inflammatory response.In the present study, we aimed to investigate whether peritoneal air exposure leads to intestinal inflammation and further contributed to POI.
