CaWRKY40 was previously found to synergistically regulate the response of pepper to heat stress (HS) and Ralstonia solanacearum inoculation (RSI), but its expression regulation mechanism is unknown.Herein, a core region of CaWRKY40 promoter, CaWRKY40-1889 to-1551, was found to contribute largely to this inducible expression by 5 deletion analysis, in which a double W-box element (DWE) was found to synergistically response to HS and RSI by gain and loss of function assays, the WI in the DWE was found to be crucial for and the WII act additively to this synergistic response.
