We confirmed here that the catalyst preparation methodologies have a significant effect on the activity and stability of Ni/SiO2 catalyst for methanation of syngas (CO+H2).We compared the catalysts prepared by thermal treatment and dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma treatment.Catalyst characterizations using X-ray diffraction (XRD),hydrogen temperature programmed reduction (H2-TPR),transmission electron microscope (TEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectrometer (XPS) were performed to investigate the structure and performance of the catalysts. It was shown that the plasma treatment induces high dispersion, enhanced interaction between metal and the support,as well as fewer amounts of defect sites.
