Marine viruses that infect phytoplankton are recognized as a major ecological and evolutionary driving force, shaping community structure and nutrient cycling in the marine environment.Coccolithophores are unicellular marine eukaryotic microalgae group and Emiliania huxleyi is the host for the coccolithovirus (EhV),which is responsible for the demise of large oceanic blooms formed by this alga.
