Enhanced dense attosecond electron bunches from ultra-short laser interaction with a plasma cone tar

  Attosecond electron bunches can be applied in several fields such as in electron microscopy with temporal resolution of attosecond, generating x-ray pulse of attosecond duration through Thomson scattering, and electron injection of laser-wakefield accelerators.By using two-dimensional particle-in-cell simulations, we demonstrate enhanced spatially-periodic attosecond electron bunches generation with average density of about l0nc and cut-off energy of 380MeV.The bunches are acquired from the interaction of an ultra-short ultra-intense laser pulse with an overdense plasma cone target.We show that the cone wall can effectively help focusing the bunch and leading its propagation in the cone, resulting in an overdense attosecond electron bunches.We also consider the influence of the laser intensity, the spot radius, and the pulse duration on the bunch properties.It is shown that the attosecond electron bunch can propagate over a long distance without evident change of the bunch structure by attaching a cylinder target to the cone tip.
