Fruit ripening is an important process related to fruit quality. We previously applied microarray technology to identify genes involved in regulation of early fruit growth post pollination in tomato, and found few regulatory genes were preferentially expressed in developing fruits. Here,we report our characterization of a transcription factor encoding a member of zinc finger proteins in tomato.Overexpressing the transcription factor under constitutive promoter 35S led to early flowering, high branching and delayed fruit ripening, while suppression of its expression produced plants flowering late with few branches.Transcriptional analysis reveals that expression of several genes involved in ABA biosynthesis and flowering control were disturbed.Role of ABA in regulation of flowering time, branching and fruit ripening will be discussed.
