Breast cancer is the most common womens cancer in the United States, the second most common cause of cancer death for women (after lung cancer), and the main cause of death for women aged from 45 to 55 years.A desire to reduce the number of traditional biopsies performed on benign tissue, reexcision surgeries for the patient trauma, and high medical costs has motivated researchers to explore minimally invasive optical imaging and spectroscopy techniques to improve early breast cancer detection and diagnosis.
