OBJECTIVE: To analyze ciliary and choroid lesions characteristics and outcomes of a group of patients with ruptured globe injuries.To find out more effective treatment protocol and to introduce our treatment experience of ruptured globe injuries.METHODS: 75 cases,75 eyes) diagnosed as ruptured globe injuries were selected from 264 cases of open globe injuries at the Shierming Eye Hospital of Shandong province between Jan,2009 and Dec,2011.The general information,clinical characteristics such as ciliary and choroid lesions features were reviewed.RESULTS: Of the 75 cases,85.3% were men,and the average age of the patients was 37.2 years,6-63 years).52.0% were hurt in right eyes.9 cases finally resulted in enucleation,and the final corrected visual acuity of another 3 cases was no light perception.The ratio of better visual acuity ,better than 0.1) increased from zero preoperatively to 16.0% postoperatively.Among 75 rupture cases, 13 eases were with ciliary injury,47 cases ,62.7%) were with choroid injuries.Both ciliary and choroid injuries were detected in 15 cases.Retinal tissue incarceration during sclera suturing was usually the vital point leading to unfavorable results.CONCLUSIONS: Ruptured globe injury usually results in severe visual acuity damage.Active treatments could help patients to restore visual acuity to some degree.Some effective treatments protocol for ruptured globe injuries could be followed.Some unsuitable procedures in primary treatment should be avoided for better prognosis.
