Enzyme encoded by bacterial MurE genes catalyzes the formation of uridine diphosphate-Nacetylmuramic acid-tripeptide in bacterial peptidoglycan biosynthesis.Functional analysis of MurE genes in green plants showed that the MurE genes are preserved in the moss Physcomitrella patens and Arabidopsis thaliana with different functions.
