猪脊椎数是重要经济性状，每增加一根脊椎可增加体长30mm及单位产肉效率[1]。中国地方猪品种的胸腰椎总数为19根，欧洲商业猪种为21-23根。这种脊椎数的变异主要受遗传的影响，它具有较高的遗传力。本实验室前期构建了大规模白色杜洛克×中国地方猪二花脸F2资源群体，测定了1029头F2屠宰个体的脊椎数表型，通过全基因组扫描共检测到了12个影响猪脊椎数的QTL[2]。
