The NO cyclic GMP pathway has been shown to play a major role in post-prandial insulin sensitization.We tested the cardiovascular profile of cyclic GMP phosphodiesterase (cGMP PDE) inhibitors with established in vivo insulin sensitizing effect.Cicletanine, zaprinast and vinpocetin, inhibitors of cGMP-PDE I and V, V and I, respectively applied at doses of 3-30 mg/kg i.v.increased tissue cyclic GMP content in vascular, hepatic and intestinal tissue in both rats and rabbits.
