Balancing Structural and Acoustic Performance of Sandwich Panels for Vehicle Applications with Topol

　　Within this paper, a process for the design of a multifunctional sandwich body panel for vehicle applications is proposed.The method, which attempts to achieve a balance between structural and acoustic performance in a systematic manor, is explained with a case study.Both composite materials and metals are used for the face sheets of the panel.The core of the panel consists of two types of foam; stiff load bearing structural foam, and compliant, low density acoustic foam.
