As well-known,cyclization was the key step in the synthetic reactions of fragrance fused heterocylic compounds.Photochemical cyclization reaction for the synthesis of polycydic aromatic hydrocarbons or fused heterocyclic aromatic ring reaction can be divided into two categories: oxidation photocyclization and elimination photocyclization.Oxidants such as O2 or I2 were necessary for the intramolecular oxidation photocyclization.Elimination photocyclization usually requests a leaving group in a certain location,such as halogen and hydroxyl,etc.Transition metal-catalyzed dehydrogenation photocyclizations were also reported.Based on our previous work,we synthesized dehydration products 4 by the photocyclization of 3-(2-hydroxy-phenyl)-4(2-aryl)pyrazoles 2 (aryl=furanyl,thiophenyl and N-methylpyrrolyl).Surprisingly,besides products 4,dehydrogenation products 3 were also obtained.The reaction was catalyst-,acid-and base-free,transition-metal-free.Using EtOH-H2O (volume ratio: 1∶2) as solvent was friendly to the environment.
