Leukaemia,the disease of haematological malignancies,is characterized by clonal expansion of hematopoietic cells that are uncontrolled proliferation,decreased cell deathas well as blocked differentiation.Leukemia ranks fifth and sixth for male and female mortality,respectively,among all human cancers.Acute promyelocytic leukemia(APL) has been identified by the unique morphology of promyelocytes in bone marrow.Because of the rapid progression of the disease and severe complications,APL was considered as the most malignant type of acute leukemia.Because there are still numerous safety and tolerability issues with the available clinical anti-APL drugs,the discovery of new therapeutic mechanisms and treatment agents may provide opportunities for the development of curative approaches for APL.The study examined the anticancer effect of diosgenyl 2,4-di-O-α-1-rhamnopyranosyl-1β-d-glucopyranoside(dioscin) in APL cell line HL-60.
