Qualitative and quantitative characterization of natural saccharides, especially polysaccharides, in herb materials remains a challenge due to their complicated structures and high macro-molecular masses.Currently available methods, such as complete structural characterization, total sugar content determination and sugar composition analysis, involve time-consuming and/or complicated operations, and/or present poor specificity.
