An impressive growing interest has been observed over the last few years for biodiesel as an alternative and renewable diesel fuel characterized by much lower emissions, basically free of sulfur and aromatics.Biodiesel is a mixture of Fatty Acid Methyl Esters (FAMEs) obtained from various vegetable oils by transesterification reaction with Methanol, with the formation of glycerol as a valuable by-product.Common vegetable oil feedstocks are from rapeseeds, soybeans, sunflowers, depending on the growing abundance in the production countries, but many others can be used in principle, including animal fats and recycled cooking grease.
