The abundance and chemical recalcitranceof soil organic matter exert crucial control on bacterial community diversity and assembly, yet the mechanisms that how the diversity and composition of bacterial community response to soil organic matter remain unclear. We examined the relationships between soil organic matter and bacterial community diversity and assembly in a forest succession accompanied with significant differences in the content and components of soil organic matter.Bacterial community diversity decreased over forest succession, and there were significant different in bacterial community composition. We found that the abundance of soil organic matter had no or litter effects onbacterial community diversity and composition, whereas the relationship of bacterial community diversity and composition to chemical recalcitrance of soil organic matter was close. The study on soil bacterial communities and their responses to soil organic matter enhance the prediction to bacterial community diversity and composition,at the same time, the bacterial copiotroph-oligotroph concept could also reflect the properties of soil organic matter.
