To adjust mechanical and thermal properties of SiC ceramic bonded carbon(SiC/CBC,30 vol%SiC)for desired applications, meso phase carbon powders heat-treated at different temperatures of 1 200℃,2 300 ℃and 2 500 ℃were used and compared. The results show that the SiC/CBC using the 1 200 ℃treated powder exhibits the highest strength of 220 Mpa and the lowest thermal conductivity of 90 W/mK,whereas the sample using the 2 500 ℃treated powder has the highest thermal conductivity of 166 W/mK and the lowest bending strength of 151 Mpa.The properties can be adjusted by changing the degree of graphitization. The effects of carbon powders on the interface between carbon particles and SiC layers were investigated.
