The expansion of application area of ionic liquids(ILs)requests us to develop their simple and mass production scheme.Though the use of flow microreactors(FMRs)for ILs synthesis has been reported1,its low productivity is a barrier for industrial application.In this research,we focused on the design problem of FMR-based continuous process for ILs synthesis at industrial scale.The experimental system shown in Fig.1 was used to evaluate the design and operating conditions such as tube diameters,reaction temperatures and flow rates on the yield.The system consists of stainless coiled tubular reactors,T-shaped stainless mixers,thermometers and a thermal bath.1-methyl imidazole and 1-chlorobutane were supplied to the system to synthesize ILs.
