The stromal microenvironment influences tumor cell proliferation and carcinogenesis through the interaction between surrounding stromal cells like fibroblasts.Here,to determine the modulation effect of fibroblasts on cancer cells,we established two pairs of primary fibroblast cultures from fresh surgical specimen of colorectal adenocarcinoma.Both types of the fibroblasts significantly inhibited colon cancer cell proliferation in in vitro direct contact or noncontact coculture assays.
