  A high-performance capillary electrophoresis (CE) with diode array detector (DAD) method was developed for the determination of the five active ingredients (p-coumaric acid, kaempferol, quercetin, oleanolic acid and ursolic acid) in Hedyotis diffusa Willd.Effect of running buffer, pH, concentration, additive, and separation voltage were optimized.Under the optimum conditions, five analytes were separated within 15 min at a separation voltage of 25 kV in a 20mM borate buffer (pH 9.9) containing 2mM β-cyclodextrin and 15% acetonitrile.Separations were carried out in a fused-silica capillary tube with peak detection at 206 nm.A good linearity, with correlation coefficients in the ranges of 0.9965-0.9998 was obtained in the calibration curves of each standard.Relative standard deviation (R.S.D.) of migration time was between 1.24% and 1.56% and deviation of corrected peak area was between 2.88% and 4.72%.The recoveries of the five active ingredients were all over 80%.The developed method was simple, rapid, highly sensitive, and successfully applied to the analysis of Hedyotis diffusa Willd and its Ointment.
