To extend service life and improve reliability of epoxy composites, microencapsulated healing agent was synthesized and embedded in the matrix.The healing system consists of microencapsulated low-viscous epoxy and its hardener mercaptan in conjunction with catalyst tertiary amine.Since mercaptan is very active and not many polymers are suitable for encapsulating it, we choose melamineformaldehyde that is inert towards mercaptan as the wall material.Mechanical tests indicated that full recovery of fracture toughness of epoxy materials can be obtained accordingly.
