Plant nucleotide-binding leucine-rich repeat (NB-LRR) proteins are tightly regulated and their constant activities are costly to plants. How they were regulated to keep in autoinhibition and to be activated remains poorly understood.Using tomato Sw-5b as an experimental system, we reported here a novel type of multilayered regulatory mechanism of autoinhibition and activation of a plant NB-LRR protein.
