INTRODUCTION π-Conjugated polymers possessing elements or elements-containing building blocks (i.e., elements-blocks) are expected to exhibit unique functions originated from the nature of the elements blocks.In order to prepare various elements-block π-conjugated polymers, we have been working on the synthesis and reactions of organometallic polymers possessing reactive metallacycles such as titanacyclopentadienes.On the basis of this method, various functional polymers are obtainable by the facile molecular design of the diyne monomers.Since the dithienogermole (DTG) units are known to have unique electronic features such as remarkably narrow HOMO-LUMO energy gap, DTG-containing π-conjugated polymers are attractive materials for advanced applications such as organic photovoltaic cells.Accordingly, we describe herein the design and synthesis of versatile elements-block π-conjugated polymers possessing DTG units via a reactive organotitanium DTG-containing polymer (3).
