Background:Dental caries is one of the most common oral diseases affecting human health and life.Streptococcus mutans is the major pathogen associated with caries, and its adhesion to tooth surface is the first step to lead to caries.Sortase A(SrtA)can sever LPXTGX-containing protein terminal and anchor proteins such as surface protein antigen designated Pac,glucan-binding protein C(Gbp C),dextranase(Dex)to cell wall, which affects bacterial adhered to tooth surface.Metabolomics has become an important tool to study process of pathogenesis and metabolic response to bacterial infections with the development of nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR)spectroscopy and mass spectrometry(MS).The goal of this study was to find out the role of Gene SrtA by the way of metabolomics.
