  As an approach to the study of meaning, semantic structure is closely related to translation because translation is basically the process of meaning decoding and encoding.Lexical semantic structure is a kind of abstract semantic structure in ones mind, presenting the semantic relations between lexical items.Words never exist in isolation, but relate to each other in one way or another in the forms of paradigmatic relations or syntagrmatic relations.They and their semantically related words together make up a system and the meaning of a single word can only be defined and translated within the whole system.In this paper, the author intends to employ the lexical semantic structure to analyze the differences between Chinese and English through lexical gap, collocation and idioms and finally to give the methods of Chinese-English translation of words and phrases.
