In 2007,a number of safety issues and potential hazards associated with imported products from China received considerable media attention in Canada and the US.Further media investigations led to Chinese domestic food safety problems being reported on in North America.Consumer confidence in Chinese food products imported into Canada was shaken and the Chinese government felt that future exports were threatened.As a result,the Canadian government moved to re-assure consumers that Chinese products entering Canada were being adequately monitored.At the same time,the Chinese government responded by initiating reforms to its food safety system aimed at restoring consumer confidence in export markets.
