Nonlinear dynamical systems with a piecewise-nonlinear restoring force often occur in engineering and always lead to a barrier for conventional nonlinear techniques.In this paper, a rolling mill with the piecewise softening duffing nonlinear restoring force is studied to reveal the bifurcation and chaos of the piecewise-nonlinear system.
