Gordon Best (1996) statistically analyzed the lost rate of 135 people who found their paths set up in the Manchester City Hall by a tracking survey.In this way,he proposed the main factors affecting path-finding in large buildings: (1) path length (2) number of turns (3) number of surrounding people (4) number of intersection optional paths.The influence degree was ranked from the lowest 1 to the highest 4 (1 < 2 < 3 < 4,as shown in fig.1).Besides,the number of intersection optional paths-N became the dominant factor of the lost rate (P=9.74N-12.4).This study used a similar method to survey the large commercial space and the first floor of the Peace Plaza to explore its adaptability and specific influences.This thesis is based on the factors affecting horizontal space path-finding,including path length,number of turns and intersection optional paths,proposed by Gordon Best in the research of large city hall.It aims to verify the adaptability of such theory within large commercial horizontal space by a tracking survey of the first floor space of Peace Plaza and to further deplore the specific characteristics of the number and shape of intersection optional paths for finding paths.
