Erucic acid (C22:1) is an important feedstock for industrial needs, and high erucic acid Brassica napus seeds is one of the main resources.Increasing the erucic acid content in rapeseed through breeding will provide added-value to this important oil crop.In this study,we used transgenic approach to overexpress the Fatty Acid Elongase 1 (FAE1) in a High Erucic Acid Rapeseed (HEAR) line.Transgenic lines showed obviously elevated C22:1 in the seed oil.Furthermore,we reduced the expression of the endogenous Fatty Acid Desaturase 2 (FAD2) gene through the antisense suppressing of the gene to supply more substrate for FAE1.
