Pseudohypocrea was established as a segregate of Arachnocrea for a species possessing discrete, Hypocrea-like stromata with fusiform ascospores that disarticulate into smooth part-ascospores.The genus is typified by P.citrinella, remains monotypic since its establishment, and is currently known from temperate and tropical America, China, Indonesia, Japan and Thailand.In survey of the hypocreaceous fungi from the country, a new species of the genus is found on dead leaves of a dicotyledon from Tai Po Kau, Hong Kang, China, and named as P.hongkangensis.The fungus is similar to P.citrinella in having pulvinate to discoid stromata, globose perithecia, cylindrical asci, hyaline ascospores with a smooth surface, while differs obviously in reddish-brown stromata, lemon-shaped part-ascospores, and leaf-inhabiting.Morphological features of the new species are described and illustrated
