This presentation will focus around issues and advances in forage and biomass process engineering citing experiences that has been gained in Canada.One of the important issue is energy source and energy efficiency for the operation.Processing may include drying and densification of biomass.There are efficiencies to be found in energy sources used and recovery of waste heat during processing.Another point to be discussed is processing for quality and safety.Quality and safety are important parameters useful in marketing a product.Example of research undertaken to improve quality will be discussed in this presentation, such as insect disinfestation from timothy hay, leaf-steam separation from alfalfa, and biomass pretreatment for densification.
