The value of a cereal crop is dependent on both the yield and the quality of the crop.Most of the grain is composed of starch.Alteration of the starch quality can improve the value of the crop.In our work, we have identified the genes that are involved in producing starch and modified the expression of these genes.The modification was done through RNAi technology and this resulted in a change of the starch produced.This novel type of starch is expected to produce higher returns for farmers and similar approaches could be taken to improve the value of other components of the grain.
