Genomic medicine attempts to clarify the molecular mechanisms of disease and then translate this knowledge into clinical practice and evidence-based medicine.There should therefore be many potential applications for genomic medicine in health care, such as predictive diagnosis of diseases and personalised medicine.For example, information on CYP2C9 and VKORC1 genotypes helps identify subjects requiring a lower maintenance dose of warfarin and having a higher risk of bleeding events.Genetic predictors of therapeutic responses, such as KRAS mutations in lung cancer and colon cancer, can guide treatment.
