Lamont-Doherty Geological Observatofy is a research institute at Columbia University. It is located in New York City, about 30 kilometers north of the Pearl River Sunning Paliside. The predecessor of the institute is the Lamont Institute of Geology. Created in 1949 by W. M. Ewing, a professor of geology at Columbia University. At the time, the team led by Professor Ewing needed to select sites for noise and vibration for the study of seismology and ocean geophysics.
