全国城乡居民储蓄余额,一九八三年底达到八百九十二亿元,比上年增加了二百一十七亿元。对于多年来比较贫困的我国人民来说,这实在是一个不小的数字,这个消息确实喜人。五年之前,即一九七八年底,全国城乡居民储蓄的存款余额还只有二百一十亿六千万元,平均每人还不到二十二元;五年之后,即党的十一届三中全会以来的五年时间里,城乡居民储蓄存款数翻了两番,平均每人达到八十八元五角。这当然是一个很大的进步。
