Benzothiazolylazo-8-hydroxyquinoline (BTAQ) has been reported as an analytical reagent for nickel. Recently, in order to improve the analytical performance of reagents, the authors introduced bromine atoms into the BTAQ molecule to synthesize a new chromogenic reagent. 5- [6-Bromo- (2-benzothiazole) azo] -8-hydroxyquinoline (6-Br-BTAQ). It is a new reagent that can react sensitively with various metal ions and has been used for the determination of trace nickel in iron and aluminum alloys. In this paper, the color reaction conditions of 6-Br-BTAQ with zinc were studied in detail.
