石炭井矿务局是我国西北炼焦煤主要生产基地和驰名中外的优质无烟煤即太西煤生产、出口基地。1958年开始建设至今,逐步形成了一个以煤为主,包括洗选加工、机械制造、地质勘探、工程设计、建筑安装、文教卫生、生活服务和多种经营、集体经济在内的设施较为配套的综合发展的大型企业。年生产煤炭突破700万t,第三产业年产值达到1.1亿元,在宁夏经济发展中有着十分重要的地位,并成为全国500家大型企业之一,1991年晋升为自治区一级企业和国家二级企业。局本部位于石嘴山市大武口。
